116B Vernier drive grease
#1

I disassembled, cleaned the drive, and greased it with a light bodied type of grease. The rotation of either the fast or slow shaft was fairly rough, streching the tension spring per the service tip did not help. I took it apart, cleaned, and regreased it with heavier wheel bearing grease, which very much improved the feel, much smoother. Is there a certain type of grease recommended, or found to work best in this drive?
Thanks Hank

I use wheel bearing grease or white grease. It is a bit heaver that some but is a little on the gooey side which helps it stick to the ball bearings and drive.

I use white lithium grease. No problems so far...

I like Nyogel. Its is what is used on camera lenses and turntable arms to give that silky, velvety feel. Its very pricy though. I paid $22 for a tube of it 10+ years ago and it will likely outlast me so its not a bad investment.

Looks like there are several versions of NyoGel:
