I just received my '35 Airline 62-136 (see photo below from the original ad) last night and wanted to find things I would need for the future restoration of it, including the grille cloth. I thought for sure it would have to be something close, as I figured no one would reproduce the cloth for an Airline, right? Wrong! Richmond Designs Large Herringbone cloth is a dead on match!!! Sweet! It's on it's way to me now! Thought I'd better buy it now, as you never know when it may no longer be available!

Steve Davis will make the missing upright bars that go in the grille area for me, once I give him the specs, so this radio restoration project is coming together! I don't seem to be able to find anyone who has even a picture of this model, except the one on the Radio Museum listing that doesn't show a good close-up. I have an original '35 Wards catalog on it's way to me now. Fingers are crossed that there's a pic in that book.......
Now who reproduces the original pattern cloth for my Atwater Kent 80?? I didn't see anything like it on their site.....

You lucked out on grillcloth..nice.
Your radio will be a particularly interesting restoration to follow. Nice dial and that case will be beautiful redone...not to mention the only example anywhere we can find. Gonna be a beaut!

I suggest you look on ePay, look up speaker grill cloth, or just grill cloth, you may find a very close match to your original, or something you think will look close. There is a huge selection.

Jim,
Thanks. I'm very happy to add this radio to the group!! Now I'm waiting for the '35 Monkey Wards catalog to arrive. Hoping to find a pic in it. It's a long shot, since they had so many models....
Mike,
I'll check out eBay for the Atwater Kent cloth.
Thanks guys for the help!

Here's the ad that was in the '35 Monkey Wards catalog I just got. So far, this is the only picture out there of this radio, so the help it provided is immeasurable! Now to measure and send the specs to Steve Davis, so he can make these bars! Being a retired USAF cop, I love that detective work!

Fortunately, now that you have the actual radio, you can measure the "shadow" of the missing bars on the front of the radio, and get an exact measurement for their reproduction. Looking at the bottom of where they go, they may need some fancy cutting to fit correctly against that bottom molding. You can carefully cut a piece of card stock to match the profile of the molding and send it along with the other information when you get them made.

Mike,
Thanks. We seem to be on the same wavelength! I had told Steve Davis, I would send him templates of the the ends, once I had the radio to trace them, and photos showing the face of the bars. I'm excited to make the radio whole again! I need to take the chassis out of the cabinet again and straighten the dial pointer, as my guy who was kind enough to pick up the radio and shipped it to me, unfortunately stuffed some packing against it and bent it a little....No biggie. Without him, I wouldn't have this beast, as the seller wasn't shipping it!
Steve
