New member and new (to me) 37-9
#16

This type of radio is quite sensitive and selective. Even if you make a decent indoor antenna, in almost any area of the U.S. you should be able to receive a good many stations once the electronics of the radio are properly restored and the set is re-aligned, unless you are living in a metal building. In that case a small, simple to make, outdoor antenna will pull in many stations for you. It would be a shame to sacrifice such a radio by using it for an amplifier cabinet. My own home has aluminum foil over the insulation, yet I am still able to receive many AM stations inside my home with only the loop antenna on smaller radios, or a simple indoor antenna for ones that require an external antenna. My Philco 48-482 receives many stations, some as far away as Chicago and Kansas City and Philadelphia, using only the built in loop antenna. ( I live in the mountains of northeast Tennessee )
