After getting the chassis out, here's my first look at the state of the thing.

The dial scale is held in place with 4 screws and two metal strips.  The glass itself rests on two strips of rubber which of course have deteriorated but should be easy to replace.

The original electrolytic firecracker style cap has been replaced with a Sprague and lots of extra wire!

Good news is the candohm style resistor R100 is good.  I will take off the tuning cap and give it a good wash since I doubt I could really get it clean while still in the radio.  One of the two dial strings is already off anyway.  The on-off switch was showing some resistance when it should have been closed so I took it off the set and gave it a little spray of cleaner.  That seemed to clear it up.  I used just a little of the DeoxIT Fader F5 since the regular DeoxIT can damage the volume pot section.
