They are connected in the oscillator circuit and they are add-on devices. Perhaps some sort of oscillator stability device. The disc looks like it might be a ceramic capacitor or battery. Is the other a plastic container? It might be a coil. If you have one of those component testers try testing them. Otherwise I'm stumped. Parasites.
