I also found the schematic and a construction video for a replica of the original external antenna coupler. Have most of the components, just need to pick up an inductor and a mica cap. And find some prongs that fit the connector. Maybe that will make it work better with an outside wire.

I was even picking up some Japanese station in the 6-7 MHz range along with some others on that lowest SW band. Which is maybe NHK World related from France at 6105 kHz looking it up but it was closer to 6500 on the dial so I'm guessing I still need to figure out some adjustments.
