Radoez - I once had a 116X chassis, and later acquired an early 116B shouldered tombstone cabinet. Here's what I did: I used an H-13 speaker, the same type used in the 116B, which has an 1125 ohm field coil.

The 116X originally used a U-9 speaker, which has a 1450 ohm field. The U-9 is very heavy, and the field coil is huge. It would be too heavy to attempt mounting in a tombstone cabinet.

My 116X chassis worked just fine with the H-13 speaker.

Other Type H speakers, such as H-9, H-14 & H-15 will also work, but you will have to change the single ended audio output transformer to a push-pull output.

Some Philco sets that use the Type H-13 speaker include: 16B tombstone, 18D, 18H, 18L, 18X, 118D, 118H, 118X, 118MX, 650L, 650X, 660L, 660X, 665L, 665X.

As Wonderwrench suggests, you might also use a PM speaker; but you will need a 1000 ohm, 25 watt (minimum) resistor to serve as a replacement for the field coil.

A final note...A 116B that has a 116X chassis will be an absolutely outstanding performer. But note that you will probably have to remove the hum control potentiometer and substitute fixed resistors under the chassis in its place, due to space considerations. Also, the 6A3 output tubes will be very close to the cabinet, so be aware this area of the cabinet will get very warm!
