Okay nevermind about the "silver cylinder", it was just an in-line 2 prong male and female connector hooked together. Icon_lol I never looked at it close until now. I noticed it seemed to be some kind of plastic rather than metal. Light pulling in half once I noticed a gap in the middle revealed it to be nothing more than a connector.
