Zenith 6-S-321 - What Type of Wood is This?

It looks a lot worse than what it really is and the repairs should be pretty basic. The broken piece along the right corner is just the outer cheap nondescript veneer that wraps around the more solid wood underneath. The wood underneath is undamaged. I have all the missing pieces not shown in the photos. The top is an easy repair and the bottom base "foot" just needs to be glued back on. Then the entire piece of nondescript veneer across the front and sides needs to be removed and replaced with a new one. After that I need to come up with a way of creating a new photofinish. Right now I'm working with this guy on a replacement:

If it doesn't work out I'll use actual veneer.

As for this particular model I've seen them go for pretty decent prices on eBay when they are in decent shape. Here is an example I found on the internet:
