New guy with a PT-6 to Restore
#16

I agree that stain can be used but I like my toner. Stain cant cover defects like toner and I like to keep everything as factory as possible. The front curves would stain nicely with golden oak but the other areas I mentioned are quite dark and stain will not look right. You will see too much grain from the crappy underwood.

You can always try stain and then tone over it if it does not come out right.

Crack in veneer..there are some on the bottom of the front panel too..

Also the bottom piece separated into 3 separate pieces when I took the chassis out...It seems in good shape otherwise!! Might get away with re-gluing it together!! If not, ill have to make a new one...

As usual any and all ideas welcome!!

You might be able to work glue into the cracks and separation in the first two pictures.  A glue syringe might help.  Then clamp.  The cracked veneer on the curved portion of the radio is difficult to repair.  See the threads below:

Quick side note....ive noticed in a lot of cabinet restorations on here, that some of youse to know the wood used to build certain cabinets...where did you find this info or is it info learned? It would seem to be great info if a piece need to be fabricated new....just wondering!
