Just a quick update, folks. The PCBs have been manufactured, and shipped yesterday. Surely they’ll arrive this week. I also just submitted an order for the connectors I will need between the two PCBs. We should have a working IF transformer by the end of the week.

It works! I received the PCBs this morning in the mail, and put everything together. I reused the base from the original insides, and soldered the new assembly to it. Then I put the metal can on top. I need to complete the full alignment (at long last), but I was able to tune into a few stations quite clearly. And the nice part is that it looks original!

Thank you all! It would not have been possible without the guidance of everyone who has weighed in. So far I’ve gotten about 8 hours of playtime out of the radio with the new IF transformer. It’s working great, but I’ve had to wiggle the IF can a few times because audio has gone quiet. Wiggling the can does the trick. I’m suspecting I have a bad solder joint, so I will have to pop it back open to address that.

I’ve taken the day off today, so I took a look at the IF transformer. I got lucky this time—there were no loose solder connections. The unit simply wasn’t fastened securely into the brass clip that holds it in place. This has resolved the audio issue.

Congrats on the easy fix. I will bookmark this great project for future use as I’m sure many others will as well.
