Philco 38-624, possible substitute chassis and speaker
#1

I have a Philco 38-624T with a nice "bullet" cabinet.  It has the 6 volt chassis that I believe is restorable but since I am not interested in the battery option I am looking for another Philco chassis and speaker that operates on 120volts and would fit in the 38-624T cabinet.  I posted about this over on the antiqueradios forum and was referred to this post on this phorum http://philcoradio.com/phorum/archive/i ... 13940.html.  If I read this post correctly it looks like the only options are the 37-610T, 37-611T, and 38-620T.  Are there any other options?

Thanks, Bob

I am currently in the middle of doing just what you are describing.

The only difference is, my 38-624T cabinet was empty when I purchased it.

I'm in the midst of restoring a 37-640 chassis. When finished I plan to install it into the restored 38-624T cabinet.

Here is a list of AC chassis that will fit in that cabinet:

37-610, 37-620, 37-630, 37-640, 37-2620, 38-610, 38-620, 38-630, 38-2620, 38-2630.

And a list of AC/DC chassis:

37-611, 37-641

Thanks Ron.  What about speakers?  Will the speakers from any of these models fit?

The speakers will need to be 8 inch units, matched to the chassis in question.

If you go to the following link here on the Phorum:

http://www.philcoradio.com/phorum/showth...hp?tid=215

and look for the Excel file speakers.zip, download and unzip it, and study it carefully. It gives information on the speakers used with each Philco model.

Thanks again Ron.  I just looked at the links to your restoration.  Great work and it will help me immensely.
