Philco 38-12 Speaker ?
#1

I have a 38-12 that has a pretty toasted speaker cone. I patched it up with some rubber cement and old dryer sheet (which I've had previous successes with) but it rattles like a tin can with marbles in it.

It's a 5.25" speaker with a voice coil opening right around .75" and I cant find any sources for replacement cones that match.

I've never done a recone job but I'm thinking of giving this one a shot vs trying to find/pay for an entire speaker replacement.

Anyone have any advice?

PS-Im also trying to determine if there are any other Philco models that used the same speaker. The schematic lists the part numbers for the cone and voice coil (36-3981) but google hasn't given me any love with finding much info on it.

You could use Philco 38-15, 39-7, 39-6.
They all have the same or very close speaker whose mount also will fit.

I used a 39-7 one on my 38-12.

PS. If buying make sure the speaker comes from the table model, not chairside one.
The chairside also has a larger output transformer that does not fit well (had that problem myself) inside a tabletop.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

The center hole is a little larger but you can make up the difference by leaving some of the original paper on the cone.

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

Or try these guys, http://www.electronix.com/advanced_searc...ne&x=0&y=0 Kirk has bought replacement cones from them before, and the price is much better then the fleabay seller if the foam edge doesn't bother you. Maybe you can find something else you need on their site at the same time?
