Ship radio Woes
#1

VERY BAD SCHEMATIC WARNING

Ok so I did the best I can.

Here is the schematic for the chassis and one for the lights.
A concern is that there is not power cord?? what would be a power cord goes into the transformer.

Pictures are in order as shown in the schamatic.

Light schematic:
Picture 1. I dont know what this is but the electricity is hooked to one end and the across it to the other end.
Picture 2. Another one on the other side of the ship.
Pic 3. Light schematic.

Radio schematic:
Pic 4. This is a coil under the chassis. Again I am sorry I dont know what to call it. Antenna coil?
Pic 5. Unknown Ecap.
Pic 6-7-8. Chassis schematic whole and 2 closeups.

Any help is appreciated!
Kirk

Geez!!! What do you want?? Somebody two draw you a picture???

Oh Ok.
On one of your drawing it looks like you have two 25Z5's. Looked closer and one is a 43. Exchange the 25L6 for the 43. All heater pins are number 1 one the left and number 6 on the right. Don't worry abt those xmas lights they don't have to be in the radio circuit. Can be powered off of the ac line.

I was wondering what that transformer had to do with things, I had the thought that perhaps they were using it to power the tube filaments in the radio or some such thing. Yes, the lamp sockets and wiring should be independent of the radio, I'm guessing that they used 120 volt bulbs and not something oddball.

that metal area you asked about must be some sort of neutral leg collection bar so to speak.
a place to get an assured good chassis ground. you add a ring lug / fork lug under the screws.

it looks like someone solved lack of chassis connection points available by using the materials that you have intercepting the N leg of input power.
I can see the Hot leg being handed off through the center of the light socket. makes sense the N leg is right next door.

do you have continuity from the lamp socket threaded part to the metal strap area?

Funny, at first glance on your first picture,,
it looks like a 1bbl carb from a pretty old lawn mower.

The other tube is a 12z3.  I was  told that it needs a ballast instead of that tube. The ballast number is L55CG. I am not in front of the radio and am away right now but I will check the continuity when I get home.

This should be the schematic.

I had the idea that maybe they were using that transformer as a voltage dropper, perhaps by using one of the windings in series with the tube filaments. Before I found out that this set had it's tubes wired in series I had the idea that maybe they were using it as a filament transformer.

Well Kirk it's just about done. I was wrong it is a 2 band set (BC +Pol). After working on it for a couple of days (since Monday) it's working picking up many station across the BCB. The Police sensitivity stinks but there is no adjusts for it so it is what what it is. Did pickup CHU' time signal @ 3.3mc or so but was weak.

It kinda follows your schematic but the choke in the p/s was open so I changed the circuit to a cathode bias from it's original grid bias. So the p/s is pretty different. Spkr was trashed so removed the output transformer (still good) and added a 6" pm spkr in it's place.

Volume isn't quite where I'd like it. It's not bad but should be just a bit louder. Should test the 43 to see if it's weak and maybe optimize a resistor in the det circuit.

I had forgotten about your ship radio.  It looks like Terry has it under control!
