Jackson 648a how test 264c?
#1

I have a 264c tube that I would like to test using my Jackson 648a dynamic tester. The documentation of my tube tester does not list this tube. I have the data sheet for the tube but do not have enough knowledge to translate that into the proper tube tester settings. Can anyone tell me how to set up the tester to check this tube correctly?

The characteristic data is here:

https://www.radiomuseum.org/tubes/tube_264c.html

I believe it can be tested as an 864...

Possibly could substitute for a WX-12 or a type 12, not to be confused with a UX-112 which has a 5 volt filament.

Nice tube for dry battery service...

And send a few to me. A good replacement for WD11s. Dunno how popular 264s are but 864s are getting scarce. I bought 2 NOS Hytron JAN VT24s about 10 years ago from someone on eBay, I think I paid $10 each.

Radiomuseum states that this tube is a new and improved, and rebased WD11 (ANYTHING is an improvement over a WD11).

Following is from RadioMuseum:

Identical to 864 = CV2675 = VT-24 = SE-3864A = 264 = CX864 = 464 = ER864 = TS864 = T-864
Similar Tubes
Normally replaceable-slightly different:
38064 ; FR-300 ; WX12
Predecessor Tubes WD11 UX864
Base UX-Base (4 Pins (2 thick, USA 1924, UX) (Codex=Bo)
Was used by Radio/TV-reception etc.
Filament Vf 1.1 Volts / If 0.25 Ampere / Direct / Specified voltage AC/DC
Description
Low-microphonic rebased and improved WD11; mu 8.2, Gm 0.65mS.

Sturdy non-microphonic tube for aircraft communication. Airplane vibrations caused noise in the receiver using normal tubes. Three of these tubes used in the RCA 4088 condenser microphone. It was classified for industrial use but was released for general distribution in April 1932.

Thanks you. Unfortunately, my tube tester does not have data for any of those equivalent or closely equivalent types listed. I acquired the tube in a collection Left behind when a friend died and I'm trying to help his wife dispose of them. Apparently this tube is somewhat rare and I have seen them selling for over $100 on ebay. I would feel better listing a tube that had been tested. I guess I could just make sure the filament has continuity

One thing to bear in mind is that your tube tester cannot tell you that a tube is good - it can only tell you that a tube is definitely bad. Only by trying a replacement tube in your radio can you know that it is good.
