This model is *i believe* the grandfather of my 47-1230. While I prefer *my set* (who doesn't) this set is great, and seems to be in fairly good shape.

Riders volume 14 mentions this model, but you can see on Nostalgia Air that there's not much in there

Radiomuseum seems to have schematics for it, or you should be able to purchase a large print from PhilcoRepairBench.

Others on this forum should have more info about it, but congratulations on this project, you shouldn't regret it.

Congratulations on your acquisition. The 42-1009 is the same as the 42-1008 on the inside, but it is "dressed up" in a much fancier cabinet.

Your set does not have its original Beam of Light record changer. These can be found, but the 1942 changers can be a PITA to restore properly. I suggest leaving it to West-Tech Services if you find one. They have the capability to convert these from the troublesome bell drive to 78 rpm (only) rim drive. Philco knew the bell drive was a mistake, and they even sold kits after WWII to convert the changers to rim drive.

What color or "type" of grill cloth should go in it?

My Sister and her Hubby brought the radio up last night looks like it will be an interesting restoration! Doug Icon_smile
