Philco 42-365
#1

I'm a new to the forum ...... experienced in electronics, but all post tube era. I acquired a 42-365 when moving my parents from their home to assisted living. The cabinet is in very good condition ...... but would look nicer with a restoration. There is a loud constant hum ( independent of volume) which Ron tells me is likely the electrolytics. I don't see much discussion on this model. Are there a lot of these around? Is it an uncommon model?

Not a real common set...but not a desirable one, either, from a collectibility standpoint. I have one like yours, either a 42-365 or 360, don't really remember right now. It was given to me by a good friend...I do not plan to restore it, but will use it for parts. Its cabinet is pretty much shot.

Do replace those electrolytics, and ALL paper capacitors as well. The old rubber insulation on the wiring will also have to be addressed.

Good luck, and enjoy!
