41-841 portable: battery connector
#1

Hi, does anyone know where to obtain a battery plug for a 1941 portable? There were several similar models in years right before and after, probably all used same connector.

I have a minty 41-841 which plays extremely well. The radio half of the battery plug connector is there and in great shape. It's 5 pronged and male (as opposed to my G500 Transoceanic which is 4 pronged and female).

I don't want to cut off the old plug and substitute for it, would like to keep it in a more original configuration. Except for the plug difference the *heavy* TO pack I already have would work fine (60AAs, 6Ds). It fits right in the 41-481 compartment, and the B voltage is already correct (90v). And by removing one of the D sized A cells (and jumpering), then the filament voltage would also be correct (the 1941 radio has one less 1.4 volt tube in the string).
By the way, the TO pack easily fits in a TO but just barely squeezes into the 41-841 compartment. So, some other packs made for TO's probably would not fit.

You're gonna laugh--it's an octal socket. Only difference is a pilot hole takes place of the center "keyhole".

Your set uses a P-841A battery--one that I haven't designed yet, but I have an original Burgess equivalent that I can base dimensions on.

Hmm, the middle pin being offset from center is what fooled me Icon_rolleyes

If you can make a smaller/lighter pack that takes less batteries than my TO (66 cells!), then please let me know how much it would cost me up front to have you go ahead and make one, assuming you're willing and not too busy and all that...

But I only need one pack so it might not be worth your while, and maybe anyone else around here needs one for their Philco, too?

I can build one, though it's going to be awhile before it's finished. I have about ten separate orders to fill...

I take what I said back.

I DO have a pattern already for a P-841. It's your garden variety Eveready 753!

Dummy here wasn't reading his list properly. I must've taken a Ritalin placebo. Icon_lol

I can do that one easily. In fact, I'm making four of them for various people. Again, though, because of the load, it'll be a bit.
