40-165 antenna
#1

All, I'm just starting the restoration on my Zephry radiobar with a 40-165.  The previous owner had partial stripped the cabinet.  When the cabinet was stripped the previous owner removed the speaker but not the antenna, crushing the antenna in the process.  Has anyone ever opened one of these up?  I need to take it apart to remove the dents but I'm not sure what's inside.  Here's a picture of the antenna.
Thanks in advance.
Keith

Thanks, for the links. At least I know that I'm only dealing with an un-essential shield. How reliable is the capacitor inside the shield?

That's a mica cap inside so it should be fine.

There's one of these 40-165 radios on fleebay now for $70 local pickup in Chesterton, Indiana. It even has a good antenna.

Well, I got angry last night and fabricated a very stiff paper form to fit inside the antenna shield.  It is now crush proof.  I'm pretty sure a five year old could step on it without crushing it.  I used basswood plywood and presentation board.  Here it is almost together.  Will the paper interfere with the radio waves?

Neat! Icon_thumbup

No, the paper will not interfere with reception.
