Repro. escutcheons
#1

Was there ever sufficient interest to reproduce those shrinking cellulose-made (?) escutcheons like on the cabinets of models 42-PT94 and other portables? At one time, I thought this forum was trying to collect enough interested parties so that a repro. parts maker would start making them. Any updates about that?

I approached Larry Bordonaro, and Ed (Blacksmith) about making these escutcheons. Neither felt these escutcheons would sell well enough to justify making the molds, not to mention the high start-up costs involved.

It's too bad. Personally, I feel the popularity of the 41-226T, called "The Sled" by many collectors, would alone justify someone tooling up to make the escutcheon available.

All someone has to do is copy the 47-205 or 48-206 escutcheon - it is the same pattern, and made of an improved non-shrinking plastic. But the 47-205/48-206 escutcheon is ivory, and a marbleized brown is needed for some models, and a very dark brown for the 41-226T.

The cost of rapid replication and prototyping is quickly becoming feasible for small projects like this.

For the DIY crowd, Fab@Home (http://fabathome.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page) and RepRap (http://reprap.org/bin/view/Main/WebHome) are viable for 3D object printing now.

Well, whenever anyone wants to attempt this project, I have a 47-205 sitting here, the grille of which may be used to make a mold or whatever. I only ask that I get the original back within a reasonable period of time. Preferably weeks, not years.
