Philco 39-116RX
#1

I have a chance at buying a 39-116RX with a working remote.
I saw the radio and it does work, the remote dial has very little warp.
First question, any ideas on a fair price and the second is how the remote can work
since nobody has ever put a battery in it????

Here's another fine mess you have gotten me into. Oliver Norville Hardy.

Do you know what they are asking for it? Is the cabinet in nice shape? Does it need refinishing? As for it working it may seem to work now, but if it hasn't been restored electrically it's living on borrowed time, plus it has yards of rubber/gutta percha covered wire run throughout the chassis which may be deteriorating by now, so I would not pay a premium for it. If it still has the remote control that's a bonus, although the remote control boxes for these are not that hard to find.
The remote control itself has a small transmitter with a tube inside, a type #30 I think, and when you dial a number on the control it sends out a series of pulses via longwave which is picked up by a corresponding receiver on the radio chassis. Since it has a tube it requires an "A" and a "B" voltage from a battery pack.
Regards
Arran
