Crystal cartridge repair
#1

Hey all,

This is a bit of a long shot admittedly, but I wandered my way over here after reading Syl’s thread on repairing crystal cartridges and have already tried West Tech Services which I understand are no longer in business.
I have a 1940s Recordette vinyl cutter with a crystal cartridge that no longer functions. Is there anyone, anywhere that can repair these things? The process appears to be way above my pay grade.
A photo of the similar cartridge is attached.
Any suggestions are very much appreciated. Thank you everyone!
Cheers from Catskill, NY.
Alex

You might want to message (email or PM) member OldRestorer, he was pretty knowledgeable on the crystal cartridges and might have even rebuilt a few. Only problem is he inherited an antique shop and hasn't been around much lately.

Maybe try thevoiceofmusic.com. You can definitely buy a ceramic replacement and they may have the expertise to rebuild your crystal cartridge.

Excellent, thank you both! I’ll follow up with both leads.

The size of it might point to it being an EM cartridge. No?

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
