Did Philco Make the 80 Jr. only in 1932 and 1933?
#1

Hi guys,

Can any of you tell me if Philco only made the 80 Jr. in 1932 and 33. I have some original service info for this model. They discuss some production run changes after run#5. I know my run is #7, but how many runs did they make and what years did Philco strictly make the 80 Jr. Can anybody also tell me if the 80B (Baby Grand) is also the same thing or was this different from the 80 Jr. Quite a simple circuit and I am lucky all my coils check good Icon_biggrin.

This is a far-fetched idea, but what confuses me is that nostalgia air shows pre October 1937 on the year before you open the PDF schematic, and does 1936 written with a line through it on the bottom of my case mean the year 1936?

Thanks for your help.

Jon

The 80 Jr. (which includes the 80B cathedral, 80C table model and 80P portable) was introduced in the Fall of 1932. Around the same time, Philco began to modify their 51/52 Colonial Clock cabinets to accept model 80 chassis. I have an 80 Colonial Clock. Anyway, it appears the 80C, 80P and 80 Colonial Clock were not high-production items, and were off the market by May 1933 if not before.

From my research, it appears the the 81B was introduced around January 1933. Both the 80B and 81B remained on the market until January 1934, when both the 80 and 81 were discontinued and replaced by the then-all-new 84B.

Ron, is there a way to gauge what year a 80 Jr. is by looking at it's production run number?

Thanks

Jon
