Phillips Jupiter
#1

Hi All Icon_biggrin
I just inherited a Phillips Jupiter 543. I need two of the white buttons at the bottom of the dial. And is there English info on this radio? I found a German schematic. It works but the little wheels in the dial string sustem have frozen and will not turn. Can anyone help me on this it has two speakers and sounds pretty good but need to recap it.

If the Phillips is new enough it may not need new caps, many of the units from the late 1950s onward used mustard yellow capacitors that had plastic film inside. Do you have a photo of this set?

Devices of 50s and up only need electrolytics replaced and even that only in case they dried up.

Hi All
Sorry about the quality of the pictures but I got in a hurry. This is what I have. The push button knobs I need shows in the pictures. Can anyone help? The set works pretty good but the little wheels that the dial string uses are frozen and will not turn so I have some work to do. But I always wanted a german radio so now I have one Icon_biggrin . The cabinet needs to be cleaned to see what is to be done. Thanks for the interest Icon_smile. Joe

Hi Joe:
I have worked on a many of the German sets and a common problem is the AM tuning cap is the one that is seized. I would check that as it is rare that all the little wheels would seize up and most times the string will just slide anyways.
Good luck with this one and once you have it working they sound great!

It's a Dutch company actually, even though it may have been made for the German or Austrian market. In my experience Phillips sets are better designed and better made then the typical German brands. It's likely that the only parts that will need replacement will be the electrolytics, and maybe some tubes, I don't see any of the black types made out of molded tar under that chassis .
