Hey everyone, I’ve decided to change things up and restore one of my old TVs, an RCA model 140P024 with a KCS120E chassis. I’m curious if anyone has worked on this model before, as I’m having trouble removing the outer metal cover. I’ve ordered the Sams for it and grabbed a couple of pages from Radio Museum. Here’s a photo of the set—any help would be greatly appreciated. The Sams folder is set 460.

Hello guys,

Here’s a great video on the history and operation of the first wireless remote made by Zenith, not counting the light gun which sold for years. It dives into the design and function of the sound remote.

Zenith has always been one of my favorite companies, and I even have one or two of these remotes in my collection, along with some spare parts from when my shop was a Zenith dealer and repair shop.

I really enjoy the YouTube channel *Our Own Devices*, so check out the video!

Hello Everyone, a friend of mine recently had a friend who passed away and he was helping his friend's widow go through her late husband's stuff and he bought for me a 1953 Philco Model 53-T1886 Code 125 AM/FM/Phono/TV Combo Unit that was something he had I guess bought years ago to restore, but I'm not sure if he ever got around to restoring it electrically or not or if it just sat around collecting dust.

I'm wondering if there's anything in particular I should look out for when attempting to restore this unit electricallly or if I should just go about working on this unit like I did with my old Meck/Philharmonic TV and just replace a few caps at a time and just test it out as I go? Was this TV known to drive tubes hard or was it easy on tubes? Also how was the flyback transformer on this set and the Hi-voltage section in general?

This is the first Philco TV from this time period I've ever worked on and so I'm not sure how the early Philco TVs are to work on compared to say Zenith or the Meck I previously Worked on thats from the same time period, I have worked on one other Philco TV, a Philco Townhouse, but that was from almost 15 years after this TV was made and so the chassis was quite a bit different.
So after a few months of waiting I finally had a chance to fire up the newly restored chassis for the first time yesterday. It's great to see beautiful vertical deflection without even having made any adjustments yet. The horizontal, well a couple problems. The first problem that I realized about 2:00 a.m. overnight is that I forgot to install the new horizontal AFC diodes! Second the flyback was doing its best impression of a tabletop candle with small wisps of acrid smoke gently wafting out of the high voltage housing. I don't think my issue for getting the diodes would have anything to do with that. This flyback was suspect when I pick the setup a long time ago and I have a replacement to install. So at least we sort of had a raster, stand by for further updates.

I need to get a DVD or BluRay Player to feed video into the TV.
I plan to attach a Balun to where the antenna leads are; then a player to the Balun.
Wondering if anyone can suggest a good unit to feed into the set?
I guess any DVD or BluRay Player would work.
Just wondered if anyone had any other thoughts or a specific unit to recommend.
I drove from Western Mass to Terra Haute Indiana to pick up this unit, a 1959 Predicta Full Dress. A couple weeks later someone local contacted me and I picked up his 1960 Predicta Miss America. So... now I have four to restore along with another set soon and some radios. Work was slowed due to a flood in our basement, but once the repairs are completed I'll be back to the restos.
