Just received Philco 51-1730 - jjesse24 - 11-26-2013

I just inherited a Philco Radio Model #: 51-1730 Version: 121

I knew for years I wanted this from my Dad and once I got my own house, I finally have a place to put it! For being 62 years old I feel it is in pretty good condition. Veneers and finish are in almost 'like-new' condition (see pictures)--just some superficial scratches you would even hardly expect from a 62 year old piece of equipment!

Anywho, I'm looking for parts! The dial knobs--all four!

The radio does not work but still has the guts. I'm looking to replace that and get it into working condition.

And last, the speaker screen on the bottom.

I'm a newb so any resources/link to get me in the right direction is helpful, Thanks!!!

What are those speakers doing inside?

@morzh They make sound! ;) I put an 'up-to-date' stereo inside for now. The Philco is basically acting as a shell. The speakers are resting on the floor and the radio can just be slid over them. The receiver of the stereo is inside.

Do you know where I can get parts to get the original radio functioning and a screen to cover the speakers up?

Where is the original Philco speaker?

Welcome to the Phorum!
You can check with these folks to see if you can find some knobs: http://www.philcoradio.com/resourceb.htm#l

If you are new to repairing/restoring vacuum tube radios, I'd read this first: http://www.antiqueradio.org/begin.htm

Ron lists a lot of sources for parts here: http://www.philcoradio.com/resourceb.htm

Grill cloth for that model would no longer be reproduced but a trip to a fabric store; a look on ebay or a visit to the sites listed here: http://www.philcoradio.com/resourceb.htm#k and you should find something.

Here's a photo of one with grill cloth in it, though I don't know if its original or not. http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/philco_51_1730.html .
