Model 38-12 antenna details?
#1

Dug my grandparents' Philco model 38-12 out of mothballs after having it stored away for decades (for the purpose of restoration).
The antenna is missing, and I do not recall what it looked like.
There seem to be a large number of pictures of radios from the front, but not the back.
Does anyone have this model or a similar one for which a photo can be taken of the back showing the original antenna arrangement? Or are the details of the antennas to be found in some technical manual?
Thanks,

The 38-12 never had a built-in antenna. Instead, there are (or should be) two wires protruding from the back of the chassis - one for a longwire antenna, and the other for ground. These sets, like all 1939 and older Philcos, were intended to be used with a long outside wire as an antenna - 50 to 100 feet long and as high as possible. 20 feet strung along the baseboard of the room the radio is in is better than nothing, but it works better if it is higher up.

Is it critical to have the ground line attached for the antenna post?

Not as critical as a good long high antenna.

Does help though...
