RCA Victrola VHP-60W portable record player
#1
Music

I scored this for $20 today. It is an RCA Victrola VHP-60W (the W stands for the "walnut" trim) solid state suitcase style portable 4 speed automatic record player. Rather than being the foldout kind, the speakers are removed and the main unit is laid on it's side.

It also features the "Studio Strobe" feature which lets you adjust +/- on the speed which is really nice. I have found over the years that 45s seem to play slightly faster than they should on most record players when compared to the 33 and 78 speeds. It's also useful for early 78's that may vary by the manufacturer due to things being wind-up mechanical and not extremely accurate.

The stylus for these are cheap (under $8 on ebay for NOS) and are very easy to change. It's the 2 sided, flip style so you can play both fine-grooved vinyl and wide groove shellac and vinyl properly.

It could some some TLC for the record changer. When you try to do automatic on anything below 78, it bogs down to a stop. On 78, it bogs down but the higher RPM allows it to complete the cycle.

The sound is great and there's NO static in the volume or other controls.

This is a keeper for sure!

And here is a video of it in operation. Sorry about the lousy quality. My camera is good for still photos but lousy at audio/video.
