Atwater Kent 40
#1

It was so nice and clean I couldn't resist. Found in a local antique mall. The E series speaker was there also and tested good, but they wanted $195.00 for the speaker by itself so I passed on that.

The green resistor was added, and I think it is the wrong value cause' one is 12500 and the other is 65000.

I would wait a few months and go back and make an offer, the boobs pretty much blew their best chance of selling that cone speaker when they sold you the radio without it, it's unlikely that anyone would hand over $195 for something that is now basically useless for anything other than an ornament. Those speakers turn up with great regularity on fleabay for less then half that, to say nothing of swap meets.

Arran, that's sorta my line of thinking as well. They also had a Radiola 18, asking price $95. It was missing the dial lamp hood, the back, and the dial would not turn. It had an Atwater Kent horn speaker with it, model M I believe. The radios and speakers were individually priced. They were asking quite a bit for it too. Do not remember exactly how much...but too much. I had taken a 9v battery with me to test any speakers I ran across. The horn was dead, the AK E series tested good. It was in as good of shape as the radio, so in a few months I'll go back and see if I can make a deal. If not, there are plenty of others as you said.
