Gloritone, US Apex, and Radiotrope were all made by U.S. Radio and Television Corporation in Marion, IN.

If you get a tube line-up and chassis picture we might be able to find the schematic.  Also tell your friend to look for labels on the inside of the cabinet that might have a model number.  It's a nice looking radio and I've always liked that style of dial, it also looks like it has a shadow-graph or meter for a tuning indicator.
