Zenith 9S262 - What have I done now?
#18

I used a local 6E5. Did not want to screw with the socket. I actually had 6U5 in it that worked but was kinda dim. Plus the 1st RF did not work so I first thought that was the tube itself that was screwed up since all' else worked and I was receiving BC and FBC. Took me awhile....both 1M resistor in the socket and open RF coil for the 1st RF amp. If not for that I'd probably stick with 6U5 but I bought a NOS 6E5.....found out it did not help.....so now I have a fixed 1st RF and a new bright eye tube. Has it not been for the eye tube not working properly I might have never figured I had a bad 1st RF.....

Having reminisced of that, I would not use a Russian 6E5S. They do not sell that much cheaper, they mostly ship from Ukraine/Bulgaria and in the end you end up with a tube you have to change a wiring for (octal socket) that is of Russian (not necessarily bad but not supergreat either, american is better) quality AND potentially even more expensive (price plus shipping).
Why bother.
