Question about a Philco model 44 code 121
#1

Hi everyone,

Picked up a nice Philco model 44 cathedral from an estate sale
over the weekend. While looking it over for the first time I noticed
the wave band switch worked very well on a up and down gear
system, but the station selector was free wheeling. My question
is does the station selector also work on a gear system and if so
how are the gears set up? I did notice that the selector shaft
had a small gear on it.
Also the dial scale is good but dirty. How is the best way to try an
    clean it?
Thanks for any help and information.

Don't use water to clean the dial it will take the ink off of the dial I think there is a post that you should use mineral spirits but don't rub to hard.

Hello Vinzer , Good morning from France Everybody

Indeed , everybody has , on time , encountered the problem of disparition of the inscriptions on a dial , when trying to clean it .

Please which kind of " mineral siprit " do you recommend to use ???

best regards

Claude,
I'm not sure what product this would be in France but a typical mineral spirit product we would buy in the local hardware store would be something like this one:
http://www.rockler.com/klean-strip-odorl...4XEALw_wcB

I like to use the low odor type just to keep from stinking up the house.

The Material Safety Data Sheet for this can be found here:

Claude

It is Naphta Lourd in your case (also White Spirit).

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Same way it is known in my language, "уайт-спирит", a transliteration of pronunciation of "white spirit" (oo-eye-t spee-reet). Though we stress the last syllable.
