i found this radio in my garage it works except for the tuning its seems to be missing a cord or something that the knob turned and then turned the tuner or whatever and thats the only problem i found, can't figure out what to do about it though. any advice would be greatly appreciated

You need a dial string, or it could have came off, or slipping. Look inside to see. If it came off or broke will have to get one.

when i opened up the radio there was a small string but it was connected to the pulley system looking thing, but the end of the string is frailed and doesn't fit all the way around the pulley. the pulley has a hook thing on it as well? i couldn't find a diagram either on the site. Also i have no idea what the whole system is supposed to look like, it you have any other ideas that could help i would be greatly appreciated. sorry lots of questions but i really want to make this thing work.

If you need a string Google dial string a lot of good info comes up . Some people said they used fishing line ect.

I use fly line backing. It looks more like the original dial cord except it is white. You can get it at Wal-Mart and I'm sure any other place that sells fishing supplies will have it.

I've never heard of fly line backing. Is that as heavy as typical dial cord? I wouldn't care what color it was as long as it worked.

Some time back, I came across some old nylon fishing line, heavy gauge stuff that looked just like dial cord, and performed just as well. When I ran out, I could not find any more nylon fishing line that heavy locally.

can someone show me what a dial cord looks like because i don't think the string on my radio is the right type. its straight up a small peice of string

Oddly enough, my buddy who rebuilds my radios has used the string that ties big bags of cat food closed on my radios! He buys generic, 40 pound bags of dry cat food at his local feed shop and they are closed with a rather strong string that is very close to the size of dial cord. Other than being a different color it seems to work well and also seems to get more 'bite' on the shafts and wheels. It's called restoring radios on a budget!

Something is missing ? probaly not you just have to figure out the way the cord wraps around everything .
Does yours have springs on both ends, and a notch on the big tuning wheel?
These things can be a pain with no diagram .
I will look around for you i have about 200 radio sites bookmarked .
