I'm in the home stretch on the cabinet. This bottom area was so bad (probably from years of getting kicked) I decided to replace the veneer.

I haven't started working on the electronics yet, but I did just find an original Philco BB30-12P battery. I'm pretty sure it's the type used in the Mystery Control. The plan is to replace the insides with modern batteries and use it in the remote.
