Weird situation RCA 811k
#1

Hi guy's,
Have a weird one for you guy's.
Have 2 RCA 811k radios and they apparently are joined at the hip.
Noticed while moving one radio, if I tilted it towards me when I am standing in the front with radio playing,
the audio would cut out. Put it back up and it comes back on. Power stays on no matter where it is.
Took the chassis out and put it on the bench and it still acted the same.
Only on a forward tilt of about 45 degrees.
I flipped it up on end and commenced to poking, prodding, wiggling everything under the chassis, with no avail.
Weirder yet, is I then tried the same with the other 811k and found the same.
Built in gyrascopes or what?
Tired of tinkering with these 2 radios.
Any suggestions from the pro's?
I am thinking that maybe there is an issue with a tube when tilted.

Unable to find info on your sets, could you please list the tube line up. Have seen some tubes can work in any position other no. sorry I can not offer any more help. David

Murf, you can try turning off the lights when you tilt it and see if any tubes loose their filaments or otherwise look different.

Did that already and all is good as far as power.
Gotta be that cutout switch on the armature that was mentioned earlier.
Will verify it later today.

Well, problem solved.
Issue was in the electronic tuning.
Has a cut out switch on the front of the armature to cut the audio when using electronic tuning.
If you tilt radio forward about 30 deg. or more, gravity engages the cut out switch.
So I guess all is good now.
Thanks,

You didn't mention anything about that earlier.  In the future if you're wanting assistance it would be helpful if you posted a link to the schematic.

Ok John,
Will do if they are needed.
This was kind of a poke, prod and wiggle issue.
Thanks for your input.
Have a great turkey day!
Sounds like we might get buried in snow here.
