Zenith 5S042AT With A 25-Cycle Transformer
#1

I keep running into export model radios. My first was a Philco 37-670 tombstone I picked up at a yard sale for $4.00. That's still in progress, restoration wise. The latest is a Zenith 5S042AT I obtained off eBay. Just got a Rider schematic for it today and noticed that the transformer is rated for 25 cycles. Is that going to cause problems on 60 cycle current? (Both of these radios have switchable transformers for 110 and 220 VAC input.) Thank you.

You should have no problems running your radio on 60-cycle. One plus is the transformer is heavier, and will run cooler than the 60-cycle transformer.

Thanks for the reply. You are right about the transformer size. It is huge -- bigger than anything I've ever seen on a table model or tombstone radio.
