Ceramic disk caps
#1

Why are they never used in restorations? If the value and voltages match then what are the disadvantages? Thanks, todd

Depending on the type, the capacitance can vary greatly with temperature. NP0 and C0G are the most stable, but also cost the most. Cheapies like Z5U can vary +22%/-56%. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EIA_Class_2_dielectric

Another potential issue is that their capacitance varies with the applied voltage. Not really a factor when used as bypass or when coupling small voltage swings but large amplitude signals can get distorted.
