Which Philco model is this?

Closest I could find was 28D/49D/118D:

Sure looks like one of the ones you pointed out. Only 1000 made including all three. Pretty rare if that's the case.

Yeah - actually the grille work isn't shown in the gallery pic - must've been thinking of a different one.

I'm wondering if it's an AC/DC set (28D?) since I don't see any largish power transformer - at least not clear in that pic.

Yes, it's a 28D - as you pointed out, no power transformer.
